And it’s easier than you might think.

Leaving a gift to Chetham’s School of Music is one of the most powerful ways you can support the next generation of young musicians.

When the time is right, just a quick call or email to your solicitor is all it takes to update your will. You just need to provide our name and charity number: Chetham’s School of Music, Registered Charity No. 526702.

And if you don’t have a will yet, we recommend you get in touch with a solicitor, or use a free will-writing service, available online.

Why leave a gift to Chetham’s?

Chetham’s is the UK’s largest specialist music school, and the only one of its kind in the North of England. Each year, we welcome students from all backgrounds, including many for whom a world-class music education would otherwise be out of reach.

90% of students receive financial support

Over 20% receive full bursaries

We’re committed to keeping music education accessible. But with VAT now levied on our fees, they’ve increased by 20%, putting even more pressure on families and on us as a charity. Rising costs and static government funding mean we need your help more than ever.

How to leave a gift

Many choose to leave a % share of their estate to charity, as these types of gifts don’t lose value over time. You can also leave a fixed sum of money, or a specific item.

By leaving as little as 1%, you can help ensure that talented young musicians continue to thrive here, regardless of their financial background.

Your loved ones will always come first — but even a small share of your estate can have a life-changing impact for a young musician.

A lasting legacy

Chetham’s itself is proof that the impact of gifts in wills can span generations. Built on the legacy of Humphrey Chetham who donated the site almost 600 years ago, Chetham’s continues to be a space for sharing creativity and education.

Every gift, no matter the size – whether 1%, 5% or more of your estate – helps secure the future of music in the North of England. When the time is right to remember a charity in your will, please remember Chetham’s.

It’s easy. It’s powerful. And it lasts beyond a lifetime.

Thank you.

If you are interested in becoming a part of this tradition, we’d love to hear from you.
