Matthew enjoyed\u00a0all the entries and was delighted with the\u00a0overall standard of the competition.<\/p>\n<p>The winners were:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Upper School\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Winner: Lucy Farrimond<br \/>\nCommended:\u00a0 Ignacio Ma\u00f1\u00e1 Mesas and Ben Collyer<\/p>\n<p><strong>Middle School\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Winner:\u00a0Dominic Downs<\/p>\n<p>On winning, Lucy commented &#8220;I am so thrilled to have won the Carol Competition. I think my inspiration for writing the piece has come from a childhood surrounded by music. I grew up as a member of the Salvation Army in Wigan, therefore would sing carols with them, play them on the piano and in my family\u2019s brass band. I aimed to create a fairly simple yet effective carol, that is accessible with a memorable melody.
