{"id":93476,"date":"2025-05-22T16:30:50","date_gmt":"2025-05-22T15:30:50","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chethamsschoolofmusic.com\/?p=93476"},"modified":"2025-06-06T19:44:10","modified_gmt":"2025-06-06T18:44:10","slug":"brass-flourishes-fodens-youth-band-at-chethams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chethamsschoolofmusic.com\/blog\/brass-flourishes-fodens-youth-band-at-chethams\/","title":{"rendered":"Brass Flourishes: Foden\u2019s Youth Band at Chetham&#8217;s"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On Sunday 27th April, members of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.fodensband.co.uk\/youth\">Foden\u2019s Youth Band<\/a> joined forces with students from the Chetham&#8217;s <a href=\"https:\/\/chethamsschoolofmusic.com\/study\/music\/brass\/\">brass<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/chethamsschoolofmusic.com\/study\/music\/percussion\/\">percussion<\/a> departments for an inspiring morning of music-making and collaboration. Hosted in the superb surroundings of The Stoller Hall, the event brought together some of the region\u2019s most talented young musicians for an immersive experience of rehearsals, sectional coaching, and performance.<\/p>\n<p>Led by Foden\u2019s Youth Band Musical Director Michael Fowles, the morning began with full band rehearsals, followed by sectional workshops led by distinguished tutors from Foden\u2019s Band: Mark Wilkinson, Melanie Whyle, Andy Cattanach, Sam Iles, Ollie Webb, and Ashley Dixon.<\/p>\n<p>The event culminated in a short performance for parents and guests in The Stoller Hall, celebrating the students\u2019 achievements and musical growth. The programme featured <em>Blenheim Flourishes<\/em> by James Curnow, <em>Not to be Forgotten<\/em> by Pat Metheny (arr. Jacob Vilhelm Larsen), and <em>Fearless<\/em> by Andrew Wainwright.<\/p>\n<p>This valuable opportunity was made possible through the generous invitation of <a href=\"https:\/\/chethamsschoolofmusic.com\/staff\/david-thornton\/\">Dr David Thornton<\/a>, Joint Head of Woodwind, Brass and Percussion at Chetham\u2019s. The collaboration showcased not only the dedication of the young musicians but also the vibrant musical opportunities available at Chetham\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Thornton commented:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">\u201cIt was a real pleasure to welcome Foden\u2019s Youth Band to Chetham\u2019s for this special event. Our collaboration highlighted the wealth of young brass and percussion talent in the region and the power of shared musical experiences.<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\">We\u2019re proud to offer a strong and growing brass band programme here at Chetham\u2019s \u2013 something we\u2019re keen for prospective students to know.
